Step 7a. Do you need IRB approval? If so, do you have the approval you need?
The Large Survey Request form will ask if your project has been submitted to the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
If you do not know if your project needs to be submitted to the IRB, please contact the IRB directly. We cannot advise you about IRB policies or practices.
Because the IRB process can also take days or weeks, we encourage you to contact the IRB early in the development of your survey.
Why do we ask this question on the Large Survey Request Form?
If your project needs to be submitted to the IRB, your IRB application must be approved before conducting your survey.
Step 7b. Is this survey part of sponsored research? If yes, who is sponsoring it?
The Large Survey Request form collects this data so we can maintain an awareness of surveys that have support from other areas of the institution. If currently supported by grants, we’d like to know about how the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is supporting your survey. If your survey is not yet supported by funding but you intend to seek it out, please contact ORSP for more information. As you work with them, keep us informed on the status of the proposal.
Why do we ask this question on the Large Survey Request Form?
If your project is or will be funded by grants, you will be asked more information on the source of the sponsorship.
Tips for best practice
- Contact ORSP to learn more about how your research can gain sponsorship if you find that it’s necessary.
- Keep IR informed on the approval status of your sponsorship inquiry, including who the sponsor will be.
